About Packets

In the ages of sail and steam, packets referred to ships that carried the mail. In the twenty-first century, packets are formatted data units transported over computer networks.

In these packets, you can expect to find amusing (and occasionally thought-provoking) historical anecdotes, code snippets, and ruminations on the theory and practice of digital humanities and data design.

I have been blogging here since 2008. Posts are presented in order of popularity.

Who am I? My name is Jean Bauer. Through a combination of formal training and curiosity I am a database designer, a photographer, and an Early American historian.

By day, I work in the InfoSec PMO at Akamai Technologies, doing what I can to make the Internet a better place. By night, I research /write about databases and/or John Adams, take photographs, and sometimes even try to relax ...
